Stainless steel is both reasonably priced and has no history of health scares. However, Teflon, despite its link to long-chain PFCs, is thought to be safe, because part of the manufacturing process involves heating the coating to high temperatures, which gets rid of PFOA before the pan reaches the assembly line.
Teflon is still around thanks mostly to the PFOA Stewardship Program. Because PFOA is no longer a component of Teflon, Teflon proponents say the compound is no longer harmful, and that cooking it is perfectly safe for your health.

What replaced Teflon?
Ceramic-coated, cast iron, and stainless steel are the top three non-stick pan alternatives. Sure, cast iron and stainless steel don't seem like Teflon alternatives at first. But, with a bit of patience and a few simple tricks, you can prevent sticking.
Ceramic. Ceramic cookware is a close alternative to Teflon, and is generally considered to be safe. It is often less resistant to scratching and some brands will lose their non-stick properties at high heat, so be sure to follow user directions carefully.

Even the American Cancer Society acknowledges that Teflon/PTFE is not a carcinogen. It is the PFOA used in the manufacturing process that can be hazardous. PFOA is known to be a toxic, cancer-causing agent in animals. It is used in the production of some, but not all PTFE cookware to bond PTFE to the cooking vessel.

There are concerns that chemicals once used in the manufacturing process of Teflon could potentially increase cancer risk. Those chemicals have not been used in Teflon products since 2013. Today's Teflon is considered to be safe cookware. There's no evidence that it increases the risk of developing cancer.

Which non-stick is not harmful?
Stainless steel is hands down the best cooking material you can use on an everyday basis. From sauteing foods to cooking on high flame, this material is safe for all types of cooking. It is also scratch resistant and easy to clean, which keeps it shiny for long. Cast iron tawa is another good alternative.
