Can I drink iced tea before my colonoscopy?
On the day before your colonoscopy — when you're restricted to clear liquids — you can have popsicles, Jell-O, clear broth, coffee or tea (without milk or creamer), soft drinks, Italian ice, or Gatorade. But take nothing with red, blue, or purple dye.
And yes, clear liquids include plain water, but you actually have more options than that. Clear liquids can also include things like tea and coffee (without cream), popsicles (without pulp or yogurt), and cranberry juice. “Clear” refers to the fact that the liquids do not have added substances like milk or solid foods.
Thus, patients should be allowed to freely consume clear fluids like apple juice, coffee, Gatorade, tea (with no or little milk), or chew gum, up to two hours before surgery. This practice has some obvious benefits.

For procedures that are scheduled to start after 12 p.m., it is okay to drink clear liquids (black coffee or tea without sugar or milk, water, 7UP, ginger ale or apple juice) until 6 hours before the start time of the procedure. DO NOT EAT ANY SOLID FOOD AFTER MIDNIGHT THE NIGHT BEFORE YOUR PROCEDURE.
Clear Liquid Diet
Liquids containing sugar can help prevent low blood sugar and a weak, shaky feeling – sports drinks, regular soda, juice, Jell-O, popsicles, sweet tea, lemonade, kool-aid etc.
Clear liquids include water, broth (clear, fat-free), gelatin, pulp-free juice, ice pops without pulp, carbonated beverages, sports drinks, tea and coffee (sugar is optional). Do not consume any red-colored beverages or gelatins.

Here are some ideas on how to feel full on a clear liquid diet: Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated during the day and suppress hunger pangs. Eat a variety of flavors like sweet gelatin and salty electrolyte drinks. Drink electrolyte drinks.
You may be told to avoid certain types of fluids, such as milk, or tea and coffee with milk added to them, before an operation. If you vomit after having these drinks, the liquid could get into your lungs and damage them. Clear fluids, such as water, are usually recommended.
Can I drink tea 6 hours before surgery?
It is important not to eat six hours before the anaesthetic. We advise you to drink clear fluids which include water, squash (without bits in), or tea / coffee without milk up to two hours before the anaesthetic.

Dehydration and hunger are both things you want to avoid in general, but especially before undergoing anesthesia. Consuming a liquid that's full of nourishment, but still clear and safe to drink as part of your prep, helps to greatly reduce dehydration and hunger before your procedure.
